Kovalam in Kerala is a small beach town near the capital of the state, Thiruvanantpuram. It hosts a number of tourists from all over the world. As depicted by its name the place has an array of coconut trees. It has three amazing crescent-shaped beaches that are separated by rocky headlands, and many other beaches with equally picturesque beauty. You can relax on the beach or get a massage in on of the many Ayurvedic centers that have burgeoned along the beaches. Once just a small fishing village, this place is now a hot spot for all tourists.
Places to visit
The Three Crescents
Kovalam is famous for three adjacent crescent-shaped beaches that are separated by cliffs of rocks. Among these three the most famous is the lighthouse beach, with the view of a lighthouse standing on a rocky peninsula. Other two beaches are Hawa beach and Ashok beach giving equally beautiful scenery.
Samudra beach
This is a small beach where in hide most of the beach disappear, but one can get spectacular views from the sea wall, on which one can walk and see the waves crashing on the rock below.
Vizhinjam village
It is a small fishing village with a small 18th century Vizhinjam cave temple having a half carved depiction of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi on the exteriors. It also has a natural fishing harbor, which is one of the busiest harbors there.
Thiruvallom
Here two rivers named Killi and Karamana meet. It is a wonderful place with amazing beauty. Boat rides are also available here to enjoy the beauty around the rivers.
Vellayani Lake
It is a mesmerizing lake with serene water that is a sight to behold, especially on a moonlit night. It is one of the two fresh waters lakes in Kerala.
Valliathura pier
It is an old dock where the fishermen usually launch their catamarans in during monsoon season. People usually visit here to see the fishermen dive in the water to swim towards their catamaran
Best time to visit
Best time to visit Kovalam is October to march, and the monsoon season is ideal for Ayurvedic treatment.

By Rail-Trivandrum central is the nearest railway station.
By Road-It is just 13 km from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala by road.
