Alleppey is known for its picturesque beauty in its mesmerizing backwaters, emerald Arabian ocean and palm trees, and is know as the 'Venice of the East'. There is a wonderful network of canals & lagoons running across the town, with shops, factories and commercial establishments on either side of the canal. One can see swaying palm trees dotted along the banks, beautiful island and villages and hospitable locals going about their daily chores.
Places to visit
This place hosts the annual boat festival, known as the Nehru Trophy. A number of people gather to see the event in the month of August-September. The boats are built to look like snakes, and can accommodate 120 contestants each, who give their best to get the prestigious award.
This temple devoted to lord Krishna is one of the most visited places in the town, and is famous for its mouth-watering sweet Payasam that is a favourite among its devotees.
It is a mesmerizing place with the entire beautiful garden on the shore. The dock, extending in the sea is about 140 years old and is a wonderful sight. The place looks spectacular with a stretch of palm trees on one side and a towering lighthouse on another. It is a perfect retreat from the bustling cities.

It is 47 km away from Alappuzha, and was built in the 18th century. The palace has amazing Kerala architecture with narrow corridors, gabled roof and dormer windows ‘Gajendra Moksham’, the largest mural in Kerala is placed in the west end of the palace. It also has a museum having a collection paintings, sculptures, etc.
It is a water logged village known for its oldest angadi (market) popularly called Kalloorkkadu angadi. Another major attraction is the St. Mary Forane Church built in 427 A D and known for its beautiful paintings.
Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple
This place is bustling with devotees all year round. This temple of the God of snakes is nested in the green forests of the place.
Best time to Visit
This town usually has temperate and humid weather but it is more pleasant in winters. The months of August-September and February-march are ideal to visit this place. The temperature in winter ranges from 20 to 32 degrees and in summers it ranges from 22 to 35 degrees.

By Air – It is one and half hours drive from the airport in Kochi and three hours drive from Trivandrum International Airport.
By Rail – The town is well connected by train.
By Road – It is connected to all the other towns in South by road. Bus services to Alleppey are available.
One can travel in the town through auto rickshaws, taxis, buses and cycle rickshaws.
