Alleppey Travel Guide
A charming backwater destination, Alleppey provides a
picturesque realm of beautiful backwaters, thatched houseboats

Alappuzha Beach
Alappuzha Beach is one of the most popular spots in the
district of Alleppey. The pier which extends into the
sea here, is around 140 years old.
Ambalappuzha Krishna Temple
Displaying a typical historical Kerela Style in its architectural
features, this temple is situated 14 kms away from Alleppey.
Ambalappuzha temple is famous for its deliciously sweet
palpaysam (milk desert) made here as daily offering to
the gods.
Pathiramanal Beach
The place is well known for being home to several
rare and migratory birds and is an hour and a half drive
from Alleppey.
Krishnapuram Palace
The protected monument is another place worth seeing around
Alleppey.
Karumadikkuttan Village
Situated about 12km away from Alleppey, this village is
known for Karumadikkuttan, a black granite figure of the
great Buddha which dates back to 10th century.
Champakulam
Champakulam - the water logged village is also the place
of oldest angadi (market) known as Kalloorkkadu angadi.
The St. Mary Forane Church built in 427 A D is another
major attraction and is famous for its beautiful landscape
paintings.
Kuttanad
Kuttanad is an expanse of water-logged land lying below
sea level. It bears a strong resemblance to Holland in
its geographical features.
Best time to Visit
The climate of Alleppey is temperate and humid in general
and relatively more pleasant in the winter season. The
temperature ranges from 22 to 35°C in summer and 20
to 32°C during winters. The best time to visit Alleppey
is during the winter season. The months from August-September
and February-March are ideal.
How to reach there ?
By Air - Nearest airport at Kochi, is one and a half hours
drive or 3 hours from Trivandrum International Airport.
By Rail - Alleppey is well connected by train.
By Road - The place is well connected to all the south
Indian towns. There are frequent bus services to Alleppey.
One can use buses, tourist taxis, autorickshaws, and cycle
rickshaws.
